50th Anniversary of the
TREATY OF ROME
On 25th March 1957, in Oriazi e Curiazi Hall at the Campidoglio in Rome, six European countries signed the constitutional treaty of the European Economic Community, the Treaty of Rome, ratifying the starting point of that intergovernmental organization that kept on growing year after year until today when it numbers twenty-seven member countries: the European Union. Said countries, even though they keep their own cultural identity and language, have the same respect for the basic values such as freedom, democracy, State of right, respect for human rights, equality and peace. Said countries decided to adopt a common currency, the Euro, and opened their own frontiers allowing the free movement of persons and goods for a more profitable cultural and economic development complying with the common rules of environmental protection and products safety, where the frontiers don’t hinder justice and security.
