In the sphere of “Europe For Citizens” European Programme, the Città di Fiumicino, with the cooperation of A.C. Pragmata, has presented Living in Europe project, selected and approved by EACEA Executive Office and partially financed.
The project includes an activity programme for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, in which a national and European public will take part as well as some institutional and administrative provincial, regional, national and European institutional authorities.
Their purposes are:
a) bringing people belonging to European local communities closer together, in order that they can share experiences, opinions and values, basing themselves on mutual historical experiences and aiming at a profitable future;
b) promoting initiatives and debates about European belonging and democracy, sharing values, common history and culture, thanks to the cooperation of the organizations of the European civil society;
c) encouraging the interaction of European citizens with the organizations of the civil society of all participating countries, contributing to the intercultural dialogue and highlighting the European differences and unities.
General programme of the activities:
The presented project will materialize with some meetings on 24th and 25th November 2007. In the morning of 24th November a Conference will take place about what happened during the fifty years after the signature of the Treaty of Rome, with regard to the community policies, the Constitutional Treaty and the future of the Union, in which the national, European and foreign representatives will take part as well as the associations, the firms and the school institutes of the Città di Fiumicino. Two workshops will take place in the morning of 25th November, a cultural-formative one and an economic-productive one, in which some representatives of school institutes and some European entrepreneurs will take part. During the ceremony the Twinning proceedings with the Maltese town of Luqa, already started up in the month of October of 2005, will be officially formalized. In the afternoon of 24th November the conferral of the Europe Award European recognition will be celebrated. Such prize is conferred upon those firms that stood out in the sectors of arts, culture and work in Europe.
Subjects taking part:
Administration of Città di Fiumicino, Associazione Culturale Pragmata, representatives of the towns of Luqa (Malta), Riga (Latvia), Seville (Spain), that since 2005 have undertaken friendship relations and cooperation with the Città di Fiumicino in the sectors of politics, culture, society and sport.
